Waist to Hip Ratio

The TLBC (WHR) waist-to-hip ratio calculator measures the ratio of the circumference of the waist to that of the hips. Your waist-to-hip ratio tells you if you’re pear-shaped, apple-shaped or squash-shaped.

Did you know that a Cambridge University study says that the size of your waist in relation to the size of your hips can help determine your risk for heart disease, stroke, diabetes, and other conditions? In general, the higher your waist-hip ratio is, the higher your health risks may be, regardless of how tall or big-boned you are. Find out if you are at risk.

People who are overweight or obese are at higher risk for chronic conditions such as high blood pressure, diabetes, and high cholesterol. Anyone who is overweight should try to avoid gaining additional weight. Additionally, if you are overweight with other risk factors (such as high LDL cholesterol, low HDL cholesterol, or high blood pressure), you should try to lose weight. Even a small weight loss (just 10% of your current weight) may help lower the risk of disease.

Please consult your physician if you have any questions about your personal health, or would like to determine appropriate ways to lose weight.
